Talking Health Benefits
Now what even happens to your body when you drink coffee everyday? Surprisingly there are a handful of health benefits attached to drinking coffee and with oh so many positives, you’re bound to have a couple of negatives attached to something this good.
The Good
First and foremost, the first and least surprising benefit of drinking coffee is it gives you more energy. Because they contain caffeine, a natural stimulant that helps you feel energised for the day or anything that comes your way.
Although too much caffeine has its effects, to mention a few; anxiety, sleep disruptions, heart palpitations, dependency and restlessness.
It improves your bowel movements, and as a result, you end up having some ‘you’ time to reflect while you bless the house.
You may decrease your risk of getting Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease, also linked to decreased risk of developing type 2 diabetes over the long term because of its high levels of antioxidants that affect insulin sensitivity, inflammation and metabolism which all contribute to the development of type 2 diabetes.
Having 3 to 4 cups of coffee everyday in healthy individuals poses no threat, but how caffeine affects individuals is wide. So be sure to know on what end of the ‘devil’s drink’s’ spectrum you lie on.
The Really Good Health Benefits
Your best bet with drinking healthy, is drinking your coffee black, but if you must, adding a little quantity of milk couldn’t be so bad once in a while. And do not add a lot of sugar no matter what you do.
I cannot stress this enough the importance of brewing your coffee with a filter paper. The aim is to extract oils that raise cholesterol levels. What the filter does is it heavily reduces the level of the chemical, cafestol that passes through the filter paper giving you a healthier cup of coffee.
Instant coffees shouldn’t be on your list of coffees to consume because of so many reasons; because it contains less caffeine, and processed with who knows how many chemicals.
The Bottom Line
– No caffeine after 2PM for people sensitive to caffeine.
– Too much sugar will give you diabetes and cause obesity. Instead, you can flavour you coffee by adding a dash of cinnamon or cocoa.
– Paper filters can save you from high cholesterol levels.
– Don’t drink more than four cups of coffee per day.
– Caffeine rules!
