Interesting Coffee Culture Around the World

Coffee is no longer just a morning drink but it has turned into a culture. Dive into our Coffee Culture series!

Believe it or not; but there are coffee aficionados who task themselves with the opportunity to explore coffees from different regions.

And for the pleasure of discovering different tastes specific to each coffee producing region.

Moreover, this is the first episode of Coffee Culture, of us the people at Tigray confessing our undying love for Coffee.

In this article series my aim is to dive deep into an already emerging coffee culture.

Bringing you all there is to know about some of the major coffee regions; and what it means to enjoy a cup of coffee across the coffee producing landscape.

The “Bean Belt”

In coffee, we have something called the Bean Belt.

Nearly all arabica coffee is grown in the coffee belt. It gives coffee arabica the ideal growing environment.

What’s more is you can very much count on the coffee belt to be the source of any good cup of coffee you’ve ever enjoyed.

Coffee growing regions are located here: Central and South America, Africa and The Middle East and Southeast Asia.

Found along the equatorial zone between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn – that is the Bean Belt.

Significantly ,these are a few of those unique coffee belt nations:

  • South America: Ecuador, Peru, Brazil, Colombia
  • North America: Jamaica, Mexico, Cuba, Guatemala, and Nicaragua
  • Africa: Nigeria, Rwanda, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, and Zambia
  • Asia: Vietnam, Burma, Thailand, India, and Indonesia
  • Australia is in Oceania.

What you probably don’t know is why coffees hardly taste similar. It is a result of the difference in external factors like the weather, altitude, shade to protect from harsh sunglight and also distinct processing methods.

Arti-sodes

Over the weeks to come on our article episode (aka arti-sodes,). We are going to release everything there is to know on every region.

Specifically on countries that have either, the most popular coffee on the block; to put it in another way; its skyrocketing production volume and its lasting history.

The easy part is profiling these major coffee growing regions, and breaking down the geography of coffee. The hard part, undeniably, is choosing which one you’ll want to try first.

Prepare for an interesting series where I’ll dive into the coffee culture of coffee producing countries. In other words their do’s and don’ts and everything in between! While enjoying a cup of coffee!
